Getting Used to Exercising Outdoors

My Journey Journal Week* 13

Hello there again! Man, it has been a while, hasn’t it? I took a one month hiatus from blogging. Nothing bad happened, I was just feeling very uninspired and wanted to focus as much time as possible on my business (by the way, if you’re a blogger and need some help with anything, I’m a VA specifically for bloggers! (LINK)). But that’s no excuse! Let’s get right back into reaching both of our goals.
So this week, we’re talking about exercising in the great outdoors. The weather is starting to be a lot nicer, the sun is out longer during the day, and flowers are out and the world looks beautiful. So why not bring workouts outdoors?

My first outdoor adventure: it was so windy that day, but being able to walk around on the beach made it totally worth the cold.

Small Steps

Now I’m not normally the outdoorsy type, but it’s on my NSV bucket list to do a bunch of stuff like hiking, parasailing, zip lining, etc. this summer. Which means that I better get used to it soon! So I’ve spent the past couple of weeks getting acclimated to spending more time outside.
In the past couple of weeks, I started:
• Running on the track near my house
• Reading on my front porch in the mornings
• Opting to walk more places instead of driving everywhere
These small steps have gotten me outside for at the very least an hour every day (and my first sunburn of the season. Ugh.), and I plan on increasing that number as the days get warmer.


Running Outside

UGH. Running in general is not my favorite thing. At all. But it’s something that I’ve always wanted to be able to do, so here I am trying to figure out how to do it.
After two weeks, I can jog a half-mile without stopping, and run a quarter mile. I’m taking it super slow, because running has always been something that gave me a lot of anxiety growing up and I want to enjoy the journey.
If you want to start running more like me, I’d highly suggest getting one of those apps that put you in a story while running to help motivate you. I’m doing Zombies Run 5K right now  and love it.


Next Steps to Getting Outside More

In the next few weeks, I want to start doing a few more things outside. To motivate you to do the same, I have created a printable list of ideas of things that you can start doing outside that will get you moving AND are fun. Win-win right?
But here are the ones that I want to focus on:
• Walking 10,000 steps a day
• Starting a small garden
• Packing a lunch and bringing it to a nearby park
• Hiking trails near my house
• Visiting local sights and going on a photo safari
There are plenty more in that printable to try out, give it a look!
